Ceriel studied veterinary medicine at Utrecht University and graduated in 2000 as companion animal veterinarian. He worked for two years as a teacher in veterinary anatomy at the faculty in Utrecht and as part-time small animal vet in a mixed practice.

From 2002-2006 he was a resident in small animal surgery and following his residency he worked in two referral practices in Amsterdam and Oisterwijk. In 2008 he passed his specialist exams and became a diplomat of the European College of Veterinary Surgery.

Since that moment he has been working as an orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeon at Veterinaire Specialisten Oisterwijk, a referral practice in the south of the Netherlands. One day a week he works as a teacher and surgeon in the surgery department of the University Clinic in Utrecht, where he trains students and residents.

Ceriel joined the Voorjaarsdagen Committee in 2013 and is co-responsible for the Companion Animal Scientific programme.
