Anne Kummeling graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine cum laude in 1998 at Utrecht University, The Netherlands.
After experiencing life as a veterinarian in a private companion animal practice for a short period, she returned to the Department of Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals (DCSCA) in Utrecht. In 2003 she passed the board examinations of the European College of Veterinary Surgery and became a Diplomate of the ECVS. Her PhD studies (completed in 2009) described surgical techniques, postoperative complications and prognostic factors in dogs with a congenital portosystemic shunt. At present, the author is assistant professor at the DCSCA. Her professional and scientific fields of interests are hepatic surgery and urology in dogs and cats. She is participating in several national and international multicentre research projects on portosystemic shunting, hepatic regeneration and ectopic ureters, always aiming to improve clinical treatment, prognosis and prevention.
